Previously I was using an overpriced and underpowered cylinder Mac Pro. I was experiencing some issues with the graphics card causing the computer to randomly freeze up every now and again, then it would shut down. When the new M1 Sillicon Macs were released I decided it was time to chnage it up.

I traded in my Mac Pro to be refurbed and put the money towards the Mac Mini. I went for the 16Gb RAM, base hard drive model as I knew eventually I would need more RAM but wouldn't be able to get it with the Sillicon models, so went with the increased RAM off the bat. I already had a large external hard drive and a NAS drive so there was no real need to get a larger amount of storage.
